Before I begin, I must say selecting a couple of songs as a top anything is hard. You are going to leave some people out. And with this countdown, you will not see Luther or Marvin. That’s just too easy. I wanted to select songs that have been requested the most by people who want a CD to make love to. So with that in mind . . .
Fellas, It’s 10pm. You’ve had a wonderful meal. The lights from the candles break up the monotony of the night. You are on that second bottle of Moscato D’Asti (because she likes it) and you are ready to see if that month of running twenty minutes a day on the treadmill will pay off. Well, in order to make the night one to remember, you need music that will make her remember you. Here are my top 6 favorite “put her to bed” songs (in no particular order). Yes, top 6 because I couldn’t just do 5:
1. Meeting In My Bedroom (Silk, Tonight 1999)
From the beginning bass line that crashes in to the wave of five part harmony, this song is one that invites the night. No matter if you are in your home or you are on top of the W Hotel, this song literally undresses your lady for you. No need for idle chatter, this song speaks for you.
2. So Anxious (Ginuwine, 100% Ginuwine 1999)
In my travels as a bootleg DJ, this song has to be the one that I use the most. Backed up by Timbaland’s syncopated beats, Ginuwine tells a story of him waiting to be with his lady. As the track plays and you ease down, the picture begins to form of just how long you have waited to taste every drop of her.
3. Sex Is On My Mind (Blulight, Set It Off Soundtrack, 1996)
Whenever I add this song to a mix CD, people normally tell me that they have heard this song before but can’t remember where. Stuck in between countless rap songs, there is a brash, timpani fused, love song that leaves out all of the flowery imagery and gets down to basics. No chase. No filter.
4. Neighbors Know My Name (Trey Songz, Ready, 2009)
One of the things that I remember most about the end of 2009 is when this song came out. The lady I was dating at the time had just purchased the CD and wanted to make love to it. When I heard the intro and the first few words, it set my mind into a different place. I wasn’t trying to wake the neighbors but it just kinda happened. The bass line and the inflections on the notes during the chorus give you a feel like “the neighbors are gonna know my name”. And true to form, the neighbors were banging on the wall and asking us to calm down.
5. Maker of Love (Boney James and Raheem DeVaughn, The Beat, 2013)
During love making, I always like to change up the tempo. Can’t have these hard hitting songs and not smooth it out. Changing tempo is the difference between going for fifteen minutes and going over an hour. Boney James is always a smooth counter wind down from the earlier activities. So if you are wanting to get closer and feel his/her heart beat, this song is a winner.
6. Legs Shakin’ (R Kelly, Black Panties 2013)
Now, I know what you are thinking; Why this song? R. Kelly is the master of writing songs for the bedroom. However, this song off his latest project is one that I place at the beginning of my personal mix. Why? This song is about giving head, plain and simple. “Do it ’til your legs shake, Do it ’til your legs shake” is the chorus while Robert is saying where he’s going. The fact that it reminds one of “The Lady In My Life” by Michael Jackson is a nice touch.
