It’s getting warmer outside, ladies, and you know what that means. It’s time for your summer look. All winter, you’ve been bundled up, buried under triple layers to escape the subzero temps. Well, that time has passed. Before you get too excited, though, keep in mind that there are rules to this. You don’t want to be the woman out there getting talked about for all the wrong reasons. Here are 5 things you need to do to be summer ready.
1. Fix Your Feet
Winter was harsh, and our feet get it the hardest, sloshing through snow and slush. If you haven’t done so this winter, before you pull out your cute sandals and slingbacks, head to the nail shop and get a pedicure. If the skin on your feet is dry and cracked, pay the extra couple of dollars for a paraffin wax treatment. It’ll remove the dead skin and soften your feet. You’ll feel and look good as a result.
2. Step Up Your Shoe Game
There’s no nice way to say this. Wear shoes that fit. Toes are supposed to be on the shoe, not curled over the edge. So. If your toes don’t stay on the shoe, those shoes aren’t meant for your foot. This includes those of you wearing heels and wedges that are so high that your heel isn’t in the back of your shoe (and that’s why your toes are scraping the ground). Every shoe ain’t for everybody.
3. Dress for the Body You Have (Not the Body You Want)
Muffin top isn’t sexy, and neither is that roll of meat hanging out of what’s meant to be a crop top. Contrary to music videos and rap songs, sexy doesn’t necessarily mean naked, so make the most of what you’ve got. It’s much cuter to wear clothes that are your size than it is for you to struggle into clothes you shouldn’t have worn two sizes earlier.
4. Get Fitted
For your bra, that is. I know you think you know your bra size, but you’d be amazed how many women really don’t know their actual bra size. Or that your bras didn’t really shrink – that your breasts actually got bigger. If a) you look like you have four breasts when you put your bra on or b) your breasts spill out of the side of your bra under your arms, your bra doesn’t fit. If all your bras fit that way, before you go buy more bras in that same size, get fitted by a professional. Your breasts will thank you.
5. Facial Care
Your face is exposed to the sun and other elements more than any other part of your body, so you have to care for it differently. Buy a good facial cleanser for daily use – don’t use the same soap you use for your body, as this is usually too harsh for your face. Get a moisturizer with a sunscreen to protect you from UV rays. If you’re working out or doing activities that have you sweat a lot, clean your face as soon after the activity as you can, and definitely wash your face after wearing make up.
