I’m not much of a conspiracy theorist but I can’t help but wonder about the legitimacy of the NBA lottery selection. The Cleveland Cavaliers won the first selection in the draft for the second year in a row and the third time in the last four. That’s pretty amazing considering their odds of winning were so low.
Fivethirtyeight.com has an article noting the value of a number one pick – the results are not as good as you might imagine – and considering the bust that is Anthony Bennett, there is no guarantee that the Cavaliers will make the right selection. There is a lot of talent at the top of the draft so it’s hard for them to get it wrong but we are talking about Cleveland.
Is it possible that the NBA rigged the lottery to pay them back for the loss of Lebron? Possibly. But if you’re going to rig the system then the Los Angeles Lakers or the New York Knicks would be better organization so hook up. Regardless, this doesn’t pass the smell test and it’s only the incompetence of or Dan Gilbert and the utter pitifulness of Cleveland as a city that allows this madness to occur without much fanfare. We’ll see what happens next years because Cleveland is bound to suck once more.by
